Gladstone Outpost

G'day!

Well, the first day of 2012 has come and nearly gone for me in this hemisphere. I'm content so far. I'm working on expanding the Fort into "Port" with some sailing skills - getting more into rock climbing again although my usual partner just left to spend a few months in Singapore and Nepal/Tibet.

I ended up taking a last minute flight to New Zealand with a coworker since a friend of his bought a sailing boat. Last minute being pretty accurate - I pretty much left a white board message for my current roommate, packed a bag and headed out to the coast for Christmas, then got dropped off at the airport on the way back. Probably should have checked the weather, as it ended up raining most of the time and I didn't get to hike too much, but the sailing was decent still, and sleeping on a boat is always fun! Luckily there were lots of thermal hot pools to warm up in.

Australia in general has been a lot of fun; I find it's easier to get out to do things like climb or kayak or camp. And there are a ton of music festivals coming up in our summer. The PhD is gestating at the moment, slowly coming along.

I'm excited to see where 2012 takes me.
